St. Elias Holy Card, Prophet and Founder of Carmel
On front of holy card: Image of St. Elias defeating the anti-Christ, as he will come, according to the Prophet Malachias, at the end of the world as the forerunner of Christ, to announce his last coming with great powers and prodigies of miracles, so that the Anti-christ will wage war against him and Henoch, God the Father showing His pleasure at the defeat of the enemy, while the Angels announce the end of the world with trumpet blasts.
On back of holy card: O great Saint Elias, who was raised up by God to restore the worship of the one true God among His people, look down upon poor suffering humanity; convert those estranged from God; restore the one true Church of Christ among all nations, that by thy prayer the just chastisement due to our sins and ingratitude may be averted, and that peace and God’s justice may reign everywhere.
O holy Prophet of the Most High, who by the word of the Lord shut up the heavens and opened them again, and who by the word of the Lord God brought back to life the dead son of the widow, have compassion on us and help us in our necessities; obtain for us the grace patiently to bear our present sorrows, that by thy prayer the Mercies of God may rain down upon our souls true peace and His every grace and blessing.
O most devoted servant of the Virgin Mother of God, who by the purity of thy life and thy zeal for the honor of God was given the special mission to pray for her coming so that the world would have its promised Savior, obtain for us a true devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, that being made worthy of her maternal protection we may remain forever faithful through her powerful intercession.
O glorious Saint Elias, who was taken up to Heaven in a fiery chariot and who, as it is written, shall return before the end of the world to appease the wrath of the Lord, and to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, turn our hearts to our Heavenly Father, that in doing His Holy Will here on earth, we may be received by Him into His Heavenly Kingdom for all eternity. Amen.
St. Elias, also know as the Prophet Elias or St. Elijah, is one of the greatest Prophets of the Old Testament who was zealous for the worship of the One True God. He was a man of prayer and solitude, celibate and chaste, he moved courageously with every heavenly summons, never failing, never daunted. So much a contemplative and a teacher of eternal truth that, even though his initial mark on history falls in the Old Dispensation, he is the founder of the Carmelite Order (Excerpt from The Prophet of Carmel book). His double spirit rested on St. Eliseus as he went up into Heaven on a fiery chariot, who never died, and will come back at the end of time to do final battle with the Anti-Christ. St Eliseus went back to Mt. Carmel with the "sons of the prophet", the first hermits on Mt. Carmel where the Carmelite Order received its first roots.
