VADE-MECUM of the Carmelite Tertiaries of Carmel

Study on the Vocation and the Spirit of the Third Order of Carmel

by Brother Paul of the Cross, T.O.C.D.

63pp.  paperback

This little book is a reprint of the English translation done by the Carmelite Sisters of Boston in 1933.  The Belgian author in 1924 said, it aims but to realize what its title suggests and to place in the hands of Tertiaries of Carmel, together with a summary of their obligations, a certain number of instructions which it will be difficult for them to find for themselves elsewhere.

It offers a faithful and beautiful description of the spirit of Carmelite life.  And the Boston Sisters added the small, exquisite work of Bossuet, "A Short and Simple Way to Practice the Prayer of Faith and of the Simple Presence of God" - a valuable set of instructions for those learning to live a life of prayer.

  1. Vadem-Mecum is a real gem of a book!

To be honest dear Sisters, I purchased Vadem- Mecum because I had never heard of it previosly, and I really wasn't expecting too much. Well how wrong was that assumption! As I found it is precious gem of a book that I think all Carmelite tertiaries should read and reread! Thank you and God bless you.

  2. ***Attention All Tertiaries of Camel****

How many times do we forget or become sloppy with our duties to our vocation and spirit to the Third Order of Carmel ??? This small and convenient book spells out what is required of us. This very small book can always be included with the Liturgy of the Hours, and Carmelite Devotions Prayerbook when we go to Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. A few minutes review of this book and meditating on its contents will keep us up-to-date and refreshed on our duties being a Tertiary of Carmel.

This manual has reminded me of how my spiritual life used to be and what I have to do to improve it, and how to go about it. Thank you sisters for having these kinds of books for lost souls like mine. God bless you.
