The Intimate Life of Saint Thérèse Portrayed by Those Who Knew Her
by Fr. Albert H. Dolan, O. Carm.
400 pp. paperback
This book is Carmelite Father Albert Dolans unique collection of eight monographs, each of which deals with the temporal
spiritual journey of our chosen vessel of grace, either as the Saint saw herself in the eyes of God, or as she
was intimately known by her parents, four sibling sisters, fellow religious, childhood friends and others whose
lives she touched after her death. One might call this redolent nosegay of inspirational testimonies an anthology
in the Greek sense of that word, for anthos literally means a gathering of flowers. In order
to compose his octave of devotion, Father Dolan traveled to France in 1924, to Normandys Alençon where Saint
Therese was born, to her family home Les Buissonnets in Lisieux, to the Carmel of Lisieux, and to other French towns.
Then he went to Rome where he and Pope Pius XI had a mutually productive discussion of his apostolate to make
the Little Way of the Little Flower better known in homes and monasteries in America. At the Carmelite
convent, he was blessed by priceless interviews with Saint Thereses three sisters (who were nuns there) and one
of her teachers. At Caen, he visited a fourth sister who had joined the Visitation order. One third of this book
is dedicated to these precious recollections gathered from her living siblings. In fact, Book Five of the
monographs is completely devoted to the Little Flowers saintly mother Zélie who died when Therese
was only four years old.

The Mother of the Little Flower
Zélie Martin
by Céline Martin (Sister Geneviève of the Holy Face)
123 pp. paperback
Was St. Thereses mother herself a saint? Zélie Martin and her husband Louis were declared venerable by the
Church in 1994 for their heroic virtue, and the couples cause is now progressing toward beatification.
Zélie married at 27, bore 9 children, ran a home business and did a superb job of raising 5 daughters, including
the greatest saint of modern times. (St. Pius X) She died of breast cancer at 45, but her greatness was
recognized by her family and her friends and is now known to the world. Zélie suffered many of the ordinary
burdens of life, yet she was happy, loved her children madly and enjoyed them immensely. This book was written
by her daughter Céline who had access to Zélies letters and to the reminiscences of her older sisters in the
Carmel of Lisieux. It is authentic and inspiring, showing what a tremendous lifes work and accomplishment
it is to be a truly Catholic mother. Looking at Zélies picture, one can see her incredible character,
integrity, goodness, constancy and love.

The Father of the Little Flower
Louis Martin
by Céline Martin (Sister Geneviève of the Holy Face)
153 pp. paperback
Louis Martin was the pattern of fatherhood on which St. Therese built her now famous Little Way of Spiritual
Childhood. Louis was declared venerable by the Church in 1994, along with his wife Zélie, because of his
heroic virtue. What kind of a father was he? These reminiscences describe Louis Martins marriage at age 34,
his love and support for Zélie, his firm discipline yet tender affection for his children, his piety,
observance of Sunday, business practices, selfless conduct, generosity to the poor, etc. Céline gives
particular attention to the sufferings of her fathers old age, foreseen in a vision by Therese, which included
a period of time spent in a mental institution. She describes his beautiful death, as well as a sign received
by Therese indicating that their fathers soul had gone straight to Heaven. Letters written by Louis give
additional insights into his character. Louis Martins daughters considered themselves highly blessed to have
had so good a father.
