Carmelite Devotions

The Carmelite Order is one of the oldest in the Church. There are many devotions which are considered particularly Carmelite, either because they came from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Herself, such as the Brown Scapular, or they were started and promoted by Carmelite Saints and members of the Order, such as Sister Marie of Saint Peter who promoted devotion to the Holy Face, or Venerable Margaret of the Blessed Sacrament and St. Therese, who promoted devotion the the Infant Jesus.

There are also a great deal of spiritual works written by the Carmelite Order. Many are familiar with the works of our spiritual giants and doctors of the Church, St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross, but there are many other Saints who have made wonderful contributions, such as Blessed Elizabeth and her writings about the indwelling of the Trinity and St. Therese the Little Flower whose biography became one of the most famous spiritual works of all time.

There are also numerous canonized Saints of the Order. See some of their brief biographies in our past newsletter.
