Divine Intimacy
by Father Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen, OCD
1227 pp. leatherbound
5-1/4" x 8-1/4" (13 x 21 cm)
Divine Intimacy is undoubtedly the classic Carmelite work
on meditation – a book that helps one arrive at intimate union with God by the
practice of considering holy truths. It is a book that shows how to join
prayer and action and put the Catholic doctrine on the spiritual life into
practice daily. Divine Intimacy has been translated into all principal
languages and has met with extraordinary success, bringing encouragement and
spiritual profit to lay people as well as priests and religious. For each
day of the year, Fr. Gabriel gives 1) a brief introduction, 2) a two-part
meditation, followed by 3) a colloquy – holy acts of love, thanksgiving,
petition, resolution, etc., addressed to Our Lord and based on the truths
just meditated upon. About three pages are devoted to each day, so it reads
quickly, and even the busiest person can use it regularly. The meditations
for Sundays are based on the Sunday Gospel readings of the traditional
liturgical calendar. Grounding his work on a firm Thomistic basis, Fr.
Gabriel (1893-1953) draws from Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the
great Carmelite Saints, including St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of
Avila, St. Therese of the Child Jesus and Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity.
His goal – marvelously achieved – is to cover the whole doctrine of the
spiritual life in the course of a year. This is a lifetime book – one that is
conceived to be used each day and to be read over and over. Divine Intimacy
imparts an absolutely Catholic view of life and prepares the reader for the
greatest possible union with God this side of Heaven.

How to Pray Always
by Fr. Raoul Plus, SJ
144 pp. paperback
Christ urges us to pray without ceasing, but when we try to do so, many of us simply cease without praying.
We’re distracted by troubles or duty or we quit just because it’s late already and we’re tired. Fr. Raoul Plus’s
no-nonsense prayer manual, How to Pray Always, remedies these problems by dispelling the false notions of prayer
we all have and showing how we can, in fact, pray without ceasing - even at times when exhaustion cripples us and
cares threaten to sweep us away. Drawing on the experience of dozens of saints, Fr. Plus explains sure ways we can
recollect ourselves before prayer so that once we begin to pray, our prayers will be richer and more productive;
he teaches us how to practice interior silence habitually, even in the rush and noise of the world; and he explains
each of the kinds of prayer and shows when we should - and should not - employ each. Raoul Plus, S.J. (1882-1958)
wrote more than forty books to help Christians understand God’s love for the soul. His works stress the vital role
of prayer in the spiritual life and show how you can live the truths of the faith.

Saints and sinners alike have loved this book ever since it was written four hundred years ago. Why? Because it
offers sensible advice to help you overcome spiritual obstacles and achieve spiritual perfection. Lorenzo
Scupoli was a disciple of St. Andrew Avellino, the great preacher and spiritual director. His classic Spiritual
Combat was first published in Venice in 1589.

Descending Fire - The Journal of a Soul Aflame
by Jean Petit
176 pp. hardbound
This book was a wonderful surprise and has quickly become a favorite in our Carmel. Like St. Therese of Lisieux
before him, Fr. Jean Petit encountered Divine Love firsthand; through these pages from his private journal, you’ll
see how he burns with desire to make that Love known to you - and to all souls. Here is first hand testimony that
confirms what St. Therese told us repeatedly about God’s love for us: it will not be denied! Here is the very fire
of Divine Love that yearns to embrace you, to consume you, and hesitates only until you to say to it one word: yes.
